The EB Shifting Tool is used to shift SLXA, SLXO, and SLXBE Sliding Sleeves; EL Sliding Sleeves as well when using the non- self-releasing keys. It can be made with either self-releasing or non-self-releasing keys.
The EB Shifting Tool is run into the hole as the bottom tool on a conventional tool string. The shifting keys are shaped to locate the appropriate recess in the ID of the inner sleeve of the sliding sleeve to be shifted.
Once engaged, jarring (either up or down depending on the Sliding Sleeve type) will move the inner sleeve into either the open, equalizing, or closed position. When either the fully open or fully closed position is reached, the shifting keys meet a sloped shoulder in the sliding sleeve. This causes the keys to retract, thereby automatically releasing the EB Shifting Tool from the inner sleeve. Should it be necessary due to adverse well conditions, the shifting tool can be disengaged by shearing a pin to release the keys.
